Task – Write an informative essay about your favourite sport. You
must ensure your essay is between 500-800 words in length.

To inform means to give facts to another person.
GAPS
Genre - could be giving instructions, recipes, directions,
manuals, science experiment
Audience - could be anyone
Purpose - to inform - giving unbiased information which is
reliable and factual
Style – formal
Paragraph plan
Introduction – Introduce your favourite sport, and briefly
explain what the sport involves.
Paragraph 1 – Where is it played?
Paragraph 2 – The rules of the sport
Paragraph 3 – The fans (who/where/why)
Paragraph 4 – The history of the sport (when was it
introduced/first played)
Paragraph 5 – The future of the sport (e.g. is there a big event
coming up/ is it being played more/less/ does it need investment)
You may have to do some research to find out more about the
sport as you write your essay. Please ensure that you record at the bottom of
your essay your sources/webpages where you got your information.
